Train Wreck Edition - Clowns and Jpop

Great fun has been had this week at the Vacation Bible School. Of course teaching all of the Children about Jesus was the main event this week. Still, on a personal level there is what some might think a smaller story. Never the less it is a terribly important day for two of the Apprentice Clowns of the brigade. Apprentice Kisielnicki and Prioleau had their first shows in make up today.

Here they are on a balloon detail in out parking lot. In the Brigade Kisielnicki is ranked third in ballon and Prioleau is ranked 4th. That is fairly impressive considering they have not even been in the Brigade a year yet.



Here is Apprentice Prioleau just after getting her makeup on. She still needs a nose but she is well on her way to having her face.

We are working on the second edition of Army Clowns. We have a lot more stuff this time around. It should be a better episode all around. The last of the stuff that is going to be filmed or taped or what every you do with a digital camera will be done this sunday.

Yeah there was no good reason for this. On the Punk Rock Knit Girls group in The Ravelry I mentioned something about the Cotton Candy Helmet and how to make one. Anyway sitting around after the Vacation Bible School Party we were filming some stuff for the next episode of Clown Army. And well this is what we like to call D roll. In television the stuff that rarely makes it on the air is B Roll. Since no one watches this stuff we figure it is C Roll. And this thing because it is so out there it should probably be D Roll.

I have been thinking that I need to learn Japanese. Long time viewer will know my musical tastes are strange to say the least. To be fair they are all over the map.

Oh and before I go on about Japaneese music I found this in the You Tube.

Ah that was wonderful and it is proof there are geekyeer people out there than me. Ah back to the Jpop. Morning Musume has had out some new songs. Here are a few with some random comments from me.

They always have really spiffy unforms and costumes. These silver jobs should be the next Salvation Army Uniform. I have better write the General right away.

They look a bit angry in this one. Maybe they are unhappy about the silly yellow outfits. It I had a nickel every time I was convinced to dance around with yellow feathers in my hair. I suppose they weren’t always yellow.

This one is the newer generation of the Morning Mussume with their pets. I suppose it was bring you dog to work day or something. You see if I spoke Japanese I would understand the dog thing.

And here they are with castanets. I can’t play the castanets. I am not even sure I can spell it. I can spell cowbell and bag pipe. To bad there is not Chris Walken Joke to be make here.

I haven’t the slightest clue what is happening here. This is definitely one of the songs where I need to find the version with subtitles. It is a catchy tune. Still, they have a star ship and creepy microphones. And try and find the space borne Buddha. And they stole a Miranda Class star ship from Star Trek. Wow that makes me the biggest nerd ever.

If Marki Mark can act then Morning Musume can rap. It is a bit scarry. This fighting style is also being taught to all Japanese girls living near foreign military installations. Sorry too soon, it have been a few years.

The Battle for Wolf 359

I am working on the last battle scene in the book. It was originally set in the star system Wolf 359. It is a real place in the Universe not terribly far from Earth in Universal terms. In the story the Unites States has set up the New Columbia Colony in the Wolf 359 system.

Someone pointed out to be that there was a big space battle in one of the Star Trek series in the Wolf 359 system. I figured I was safe using a real place. Be sides Earth I don't remember them ever using a real place. So I set the thing out in space somewhere. It takes some of the fun out of it but what can you do?

I am still working on clown hats. I should have another one finished at the Monday knitting group. If I remember I will take some pictures. AI should post them on the Punk Rock knitter's group as well. they are into wicked head gear.

Well just wanted to check in as I defend the Universe from the polytheistic hordes that wish to enslave Humanity.

Busy Busy

I have been working on several pointless things over the last week. First among them is another Dolittle scarf. The Punk Rock Girls on the Ravelry are work on a fund raiser type thing. I am making this scarf for that.

See it is punk rock type colors with the pink and black. It is made from Dark Horse Fantasy. Actually I am having a great deal of fun making this type of scarf. This is the second or third one that I have made. After I finish this one I am going to make the one for Apprentice Stewart.

Also on the strange project front I am now the proud host of a vidcast. At least I think that is what it is supposed to be called. I am going to do skits and interview knitters. The first knitter had been interviewed and the episode is just about to come together.

We have called the vidcast Yarn N'at. I has not take that long to put one of these things together. I am truely disturbed by how little talent and skill one needs for one of these things. I can see why the youtube thing. I don't know what half the stuff involved in making it is called. And still, I am able to put one of these things together. Truely amazing stuff.

BookS Books Books

Hello people out there in Blogland.

As life moves along I continue to work on my writing projects. And without the splint my knitting is slowly returning to normal. Although it does appear that I am faster with the belt knitting and not splint. So I will probably continue to knit that way. I have recently been informed that you can purchase an honest to goodness knitting belt from school house press. I have not been able to find mine and I only have a few of the needles I inherited from B.

The pocket thing that I got from the Punk Rock Shop on the South Side is working more or less with the Boye Needles. If I am going to continue to use the Boye needles I will have to a slightly better way to attack the needles to the belt. i suppose I could destroy a couple set of Boye Needles and tun them into double points. For some reason I am bother by the prospect of chopping the end on my beloved Boyes.

Well moving along. I am getting back to the book on Charity knitting. I work on that some today. with a few more patterns and some improvements to the how to knit section i think it would be done.

The book will be organised into several sections. There is the how to knit section, knitting for the homeless, Chemo Caps for Cancer patients, Knitting for the Troops and a section on prayer shawls. I am still looking for some patterns, any suggestion would be helpful.

Out and About

I did not get alot of knitting done today. I did get to visit with City Council Member Jeffery Koch of Pittsburgh.

On July 4th i did a show for Pittsburgh and have yet to be paid for it. Well I have talked with half the people that work for the Parks department and basically the bottom line is it is no one's fault. And speaking with the councilman it is a bad system no one can fix.

Fortunately I have my knitting to fall back onto for a living. But, I digress. For those of you that do not know Pittsburgh is a former steel producing city. And like many rust belt towns we have lost our primary industry. Now we are a city half the size it was when I was born. Oddly we still have a city government the same size as we did back then.

I am clown not a politician or political scientist. Still, if your town is bankrupt, as Pittsburgh is, you can't act like you did when your were rich. In our case we don't appear able to run our city in an efficient manor. That is probably why the city is in receivership.

Once again I am a clown and not someone in the know. Unless you are talking about balloons, knitting and keeping 2 to six balls in the air. At that point I am your guy, but once I digress. Anyway if you run an organization that is failing something must be going wrong.

According to the year 2000 census there are 394,000 people living in Pittsburgh. Somewhere there must be a city of around 400,000 that is doing well. If you are one of those cities please email me your laws.

I know stealing someone else's ideas is not very original. We are getting desperate. If I can get the city to adopt the laws of your city we will rename something after your city. We are building a Casino, we could name that.

And yes of you live in a city with a casino we are shooting ourselves in the foot. We just wanted to make sure there was no chance our economy will recover. In Pittsburgh we leave nothing to chance.

Well have a good morning everyone. I will be in Hometead for knitting there. I am currently washing my Kilt Hose so I can wear my kilt to Homestead. My freaky punk rock knitting belt only fits on my kilt that had really large belt loops.

Techinical Issues

Had some technical issues with the last post. I have no idea what went wrong there. It looked alright on Youtube. Well what ever. I will do another video entry answering all the thing I did in the first.

I was about doing festival business again. I go a nice email for a nice lady that wants to demonstrated spinning rabbit fun into yarn and sell some rabbit related materials. That would be a nice booth.

We have a couple new people interested in the Clown Brigade. This is good because we need to double the size of the Brigade in the next year so that we can continue to do what we have been doing. This is a good thing.

The makeshift punk rock knitting belt has been working really well. My rate of knitting is slowly climbing back up to where it was when I was two handed. If this keeps up i may even be able to surpass my knitting rate.

I am working on a sample as we speak. It is the first time that I have been knitting for something other than clown or entertainers. I don't know, I am starting to feel like a respectable knitter.

On the Army front something is holding everything up as far as entering the Training School and I am not allowed to know what it is. I was talking to a Major who said that he had to wait eight year before he was allowed to enter our Seminary. To this day they do not know what the hold up is. On the up side I am on my eighth year. Perhaps that means that I am getting closer. I have been thinking about adding a counter to the side of this blog thing.

Work continues on The Marley. I have made up some icord with fingering weight yarn. I will knit it up Wednesday at the Waterfront Knitting Group.

I did want to breifly lament The Punk Rock Knit Girls going off line. Of couse they have the new Beta Blogger Punk Rock Knitters. Still, it was the first group blog that I joined. Like most knitting groups I have come across they were all female. Also like most knitting groups they were welcoming and freindly. They have also been tolerant of my strange knitting habits.

As the name implies they walk a slightly darker path in the Knitting World. Where I learned to knit we were not even allowed to knit in black. Although I have since then.

I suppose that it is a good thing that they are no longer a girl's club. It means that progress is being made in men retaking their place in knitting. Even if it is milimeter by milimeter.

After I left the circus I stopped knitting in public. I would only knit with the Clowns of my Troop or privately with other knitters I knew. Maybe I am getting older and simply do not care what people think. Or perhapse it was some encouragement from a dark sisterhood of knitters.

I may not be a drinker, still, I will raise a glass of a nice vintage of Roor Beer in memory of the Punk Rock Knit Girls. It is with a heavy heart that I have removed your link from my blog.

I do not know what a Sunday Comics Sections has to do with knitting. I do know that between Church & Charity Knitting I do not have much time to put together a post. Well I think this is reletively entertaining and much better drawn than if I had tried to do it myself. Enjoy!

Bob the Squirrel

I have been looking for a squirrel cartoon to add to my blog and here it is. I was so desperate I nearly drew one of my own. It was great an opera squirrel. Well I tried to sell it to Steven Bochco. He did not go for it he was still hurt over Cop Rock. By the way if you remeber Cop Rock you are nearly as big a nerd as I am. Still Working on Hive Knitting

Still working on the Hive Knitting Blog. I added a place for joining Hive Knitting’s Yahoo Group. I also enlarged the text on the side bar. I know that is terrible edgy still I think we can take it. Those folks really are very nice.

New Knitters and a Possible Fire Sale

Monday was a long day. We went to that fire at the Crazy Horse at the Great Southern Shopping Center. I am happy to report the Joann's is still standing and only has some minor smoke damadge. There may be some cheep yarn there now. So even fire is a good thing for knitting on occassion.

Hive Knitting marks a mile stone in my quest to get more men knitting. For the first time since I have been in the Circus I have been at a knitting group where there were more men tham women. And two of the men that were there had learned to knit recently. One was learning that evening. At that meeting another young lady was also learning to knit. Life is good.

Also with Hive Knitting we are going to start a blog for the knitting group. Any person that attends the group is welcome to post. We will be putting up picture of what we are working on and the fun times that we have there. I hope you stop by. We are setting it up now and will start posting at our next meeting.

The baby blanket is coming along nicely and will probably be done this week. The black bag is still creeping along as well. I am trying to figure out what pattern to put in the front flap. Thanks to the ladies at Punk Rock Knit Girls i am seriously considering a jolly roger. Well as always I am up for suggestions.

Friday Random Stuff

I have been accepted to the Ohh Bag Me group. I like being alphabetically last. In the knitting blogs it is as if I am letting all the ladies go first.


In addition the Punk Rock Girls are very freindly. They even mentioned that I was male in their introduction. Even though I do not doubt their finding it is very flattering that they would alter their blog for me. I must admit that when Stephieface suggested I join I was suspicous. I am not much for pink. Which I am sure is some sort of male role forced upon me by society. In addition men with beards have a hard time getting though the day wearing pink. Still the knitting and rock and roll more then make up for it.

As I listen to the Drop Kick Murphys I find myself reconsidering the premis of this blog. For six months I have gone out on the web looking for the knitting brotherhood. Simultaniously I have been looking for that brotherhood here in Pittsburgh. I must admit that I have not found the brotherhood that I set out looking for. I have found a couple of guys knitting. I even started teaching a guy how to knit. I started a knitting group in my neighborhood and attend a couple else where. In the process I have met alot of very nice ladies and girls. My wife has even started crocheting again during this process.

It would be nice if knitting was a manly art again. Still, the knitting community is doing well without massive male participation. I have always known the craft was the most important thing. The odd thing is the sort of people that I have met in the past few years. In the circus why we were there was always clear. And why we knit was just as clear. And even though we were all individuals we have more in common with one another then most groups. The greater knitting community that I have been a part of does not have such common threads amoung their members {pardon the pun}.

There are no finantial, social or cultural boundries in the knitting community. There are not many places in the world like that. As an outsider you get to know the restrictions and boudaries that are out there. And the few places where there are not many boudaries are few and far between.

And I have already noted that this might be because there are not many men involved in this community. Never the less it is nice regaurless of the motivation.

Another very nice day was had at Charity Knitting. I am half way through a blue baby blanket made from super chunky Galaxy yarn. I MENSA group dropped by to take a feild trip. There were no men with them. Apparently intelect is not enough to get over the male knitting phobia.

The new set of casters on my knitting case are working well. Well it is really not a knitting case. It is a large rolling tackle box for fishing. Still, it is a manly color. In addition it has large open spaces and not the cute little boxes insdie of boxes that most craft cases have. Since I already have made cases and holdersz for my needles and other euqipment this works best for me. And it is not pink or powder blue.

Speaking of pink I put a couple more inches on the pink scarf for my Neice/God Daughter. It is your basic 2 by 2 ribbed pattern. It is excelent practice for ribbing. And it is Pink. I will make sure to get pictures for the Punk Rock Girls they are all about pink. It looks as if they are starting a gift exchange. That could be very interesting. Although it would give me chance to use a skull and cross bone pink bag pattern that I have. I am not sure why I have this pattern but I do. Perhapse it is all part of a greater knitting plan that I am only a small part of.

One thing I have noticed about the Punk Rock Knit Girls is even though they fly the Jolly Roger there is not mention of Pirates. I should ask why there is a lack of Pirates on the blog. Perhapse they are more into the knitting and punk rock. Or maybe they beat up the Pirates and stole their flag. I will sepnd more time on this late on the Punk Rock Knit Girls Blog.

I am also thinking of having these little pictures beside each entry in the area I am talking about. Perhapse even color coding the entries. There is no good reason for me to state this. In addition it is probably a silly idea. Still that is the story of my life. I should probably also break down and get photoshop on my home computer so I can made a little picture thingy for Hive Knitting.

Also on another knitting front a complete idea has formed around knitting booklet that would be used during presentations aimed at getting people knitting for our Shelter. The Booklet would have a section on how to knit. Suggestions about types of yarn to use. And I am hoping about thirty public domain or original patterns. A very nice Lady from the Wednesday Group at the Water Front has agree to deisign a hat and scarf set. I am about to finish up a basic baby blanket in Super Chunky and am working on a simple sweater for todlers. If any one has suggestion please let me know. You can email me or post on this blog.

Actual Knitting Stuff & Thanks Knit 1 & Women Knitters

Well I continue to knit even though I have been going on about a lot of things that have nothing to do with knitting. Although, I have been reading many many blogs about knitting that often have a great deal to do with many other things. I never fail to be amazed by the sort of people that are knitting out there. I am also surprised the the compassion that is out there for serving people. Many of the blogs I have visited are knitting for chartiy one way or another. Many are knitting for Children in Hospitals. As I and many others have observed babies enter the world with nothing except for a hat. I love the fact that you can have nothing and still you get a hat. I really like hats.

Still, I wanted to plug a group I attend in a fairly selfish way. It is after all my blog. And both of my fans tune in to hear me ramble on. On Sundays from 1 until 4 the generous people out a Knit 1 are kind enough to give yarn for people to come in a and knit thing for The Salvation Army Family Crisis Center here in Pittsburgh. This group has already produced a large box of items that will be put into use by families in need. I wish to thank them for their time and effort. Oh and go there and buy stuff. The place is huge and as a lot of stuff. They have a nice web site that I will be putting a link to soon.

I will be there late this week. The Corps is having a planning meeting and I have to be there. If any one does come I will be the one with the beard and the blue uniform. And proabably the only guy there.

As for my knitting the black bag continues and I am wondering what to knit next for Knit 1. I have a skein of Galaxy Yarn from the hat I did, perhapse a scarf. Or I could get some more Galaxy and do a baby blanket. I always love doing baby blankets especially in chunky yarn.

I would also like to note my membership with the Punk Rock Knit Girls. Everyone has been very nice there. Stephieface suggested that I join. Groups of men tend to compete with one another. When guys are blogging they talk about how their stuff is the best and that they are better than everyone else. This is not something that I have noticed on the female knitting blogs. Well I wanted to thank tem for the warm welcome. As for knitting things in pink I am working a scarf and mitten for my God Daughter and Neice.

More Magicians

Since I have little to report but another milimeter of growth on the Black bag this is a good opportunity to answer a question about another magician. Namely the Amazing Jonathan. There are a couple of definitions about what make a proffessional magician. One is membership in one of three groups The Magic Castle, Internation Brotherhood of Magicians and Society of American Magicians. His has performed for each of these group and I am almost certain is a member of all of them.

The Second is prestige in the Magic Community. Unlike Mark Wilson, people will probably not be teaching magic classes out of any of the books that he has written. Unless they are talking about blue material. Although his material is more witty than most and does not rely on the F Bomb. A lesson that many people in Show Biz could learn from.

The last standard of a Proffessional magician is the amount of money they have made. And he has made a boat load. Hence he can afford expensive cars and floozies. Although these are proabably simulated floozies in the form of expensive models. And if you can afford to simulate floozies then you know you have really made it.

I have seen him at two magic confferences where he was on the slate with Jeff McBride, Harry Lorayne, Eugene Burger and other past and present greats. By the way for those of you keeping track clowns such as myself rank somewhere bellow your Uncle Sid with the "Got Your Nose Trick". Well Jeff and Harry are two of the best Magic teachers and performers that are out there. Even Harry who does not perform like he once did can kick the daylights out of that goof ball who locked himself in a box recently. At least Houdini stuck the box underwater. Harry to the best of my knowledge never needed Floozies real or simulated. Perhapse that is the difference between a class act and well all the other acts. Still, in this world where a comedy routine and or a magic routine rely heavily on profanity and nudity The Amazing Jonathan is much classier then most of his peers. And like contreversy in most of show bussiness it is a fiction used to hype shows and sell tickets. Except where David Blaine is concerned no one really likes him.


I have also been informed that there is at least one male member of the Punk Rock Knit Girls. Well that is reassuring, perhapse I should give it a shot. I do have lots of blue hair and a couple jars of Manic Panic.

Multiple People Blogs

I have always been facinited by the multiple people blogs. I have been reading the Punk rock Girls Knitter blog. It has people from many areas blogging about knitting. I have not found a punk rock knitters blog for boys. I probably could not pass myself as a punk rock girl.

Moving along I am still looking for new neat blogs.

Well I did not have much to to say. I am just not getting to sleep.
