Corps Knitting

We had our third Knitting Night at the Corps yesterday. I think at this point every young person in the Brigade is knitting except for one. At this point I believe half our congregation is knitting. It is odd how something that is some times scorned can be used for good. Those who know the road the Brigade and our ministry has taken personally will know what that means.

Onto other items having to do with the Corps the Brigade will be standing Kettle at Century III Mall this Friday and Saturday. We will not being face still we will be there juggling and doing balloon animals. It you happen to be out and about stop by and see us.

If you cannot get to the mall there is also the handy kettle on my blog here. I suppose dropping change in a bucket is easier than what ever you have to do to put money in a cyber kettle. Never the less it is all going to the same place.

For some reason blogger is not letting me up load pictures today. It does that from time to time. I have been working on some drawing of the ships in the books. I also have watched the first couple season of Space Battle Ship Yamato. My story does not take place in a time when Humanity is as technologically advanced as they are in Yamato. Still, the Navy in my book has ships that are more like ocean going vessels.

None of the ships are resurrected World War II ships. Still, they do have hulls fit the types that one might find in the Navy today. Poking around on the internet there are all kinds of sci fi stories about ocean going ships that can go into space.

My idea started as what i thought would be a natural progression. The Navy has ships so they would be the ones with ships in space. Also it would be easier for something the size of an air craft carrier to land on Water.

Monday Night Knitting

Long time ready of the blog will know that I am not much of a foot ball fan. I suppose I don't realy see the point. Baseball is one thing and soccer is another. But foot ball is just plain pointless. That said I am apparently the only one at my knitting group that feels that way. Even my wife likes foot. This in itself is disturbing in so many way but I digress.

One of the drawbacks of where we have our knitting group on Carson street is that most of the food in the area is fairly upscale. So grabbing a burger and taking it to the group is hard to do if you are walking around. Well after the group we were walking down Carson street because we had time before the movie we wanted to see. So we came across a restaurant called Doubleday. I least I think that is what it is called my memory for these things is sometimes shoty

By the way my wife just confirmed that it is named for Abner Doubleday. Anyway they had large televisions and very good food at reasonable prices. My wife though that we should have the monday knitting group. I know I probably don't even have to ask the people in the group if they want to do this. We did talk to the manager and he liked the idea. So the planning for this thing should fairly simple.

Monday Knitting

As always is was the Sheep and Dinosaur knitting group on Sunday. Just for yuks here is the hat I am working on for Miss Flower the Clown. It is made in the Green and yallow tutufruity red heart something or other.

I can't remember the name of yarn. It was ring around the rosey or something like that. Weird how we still songs about the plague. Maybe the yarn was not named for that song.

This is a random picture of the back of Walt. We were also writing balloon stuff as well. So we had some balloon fun as well.

And this is the Great Train Robery. It is one of my favorite movies that you can now see on the Hulu thing.

Typing Lots of Typing

The last several days I have been doing is typing and working on The Salvation Navy.

The only knitting I have been doing is at the Monday Group.

There have also been stuff to do with this and that.

Mostly lots of typing. On the up side I watch the Hulu while Type. So I have gone through all the Babylon 5 and most of bones and a bunch of the movies.

Monday Group and Rolling Tote

Fun times were had at the Yarn N'At. We did another episode of Yarn N'At. It is such an entertaining episode we stuck it together this evening. This is Rachel having fun at the Dinosaur and Sheep Group. I think she is having fun. Maybe that is not a fun having face. At least she has a balloon Turtle. Really there is little else to life other than balloon turtles. So if you life is not what you want it to be be ask yourself. Do I have a balloon turtle. If the answer is no then that is why you are unhappy.If you come to our group we will make you a turtle that will make you happy.

I did drag out the old rolling tote again. The thing has seen better days. It's wheels wore out and the feet that hold it out in the front have also worn out.

This is what the underside looks like not. It has a bit of wood for the feet now. And there are new wheels in the back. I know you are impressed. I certainly am.

We Got a Sign

I am close to finishing another hat that I have not taken pictures of. It is made from an acrylic. It is going to have a pom pom on a six stich peice of icord that comes out of the top of the hat.

The good people at Joseph Beths made us a sign for our knitting group. At the Bee Hive we were not allowed to have a sign. Look at it that put a dinosaur on it because we are the Sheep and Dinosaur knitting group. Good times.
Here is Walt mussing over a clown hat that he is starting. He even has a pattern for his hat. I am really a bit scared when clowns are that organised.
Carol and Jamie are going through untangling some yarn. It did get untangled. I know it does not look promising at this point.

Monday at JoBeth's

Fun was had at the JoBeth's this evening. Besides the regular knitting excitement we had some balloon stuff as well.

This is Monkey the Apprentice Arasen was working on. We let it go and it climbed the audio books. What can you do. The balloon monkeys are notoriously ill manored.


The cross is the last balloon that he had to do for his balloon proficiency. As you can see it is Cross like in most respects. So he is now ready to fight off silly vampires. Or at the very least vampires that do not have long needles or pointy sticks.


This is the current hat i am working on. It is made from some kind of self patterning acrylic yarn. It was in the clown stash without a label. So I am not sure what it is. It has the feel of Red Heart Classic. As you can see it is patterning up nicely.

This is one I finished up the body of. It is made from Red Heart Hockey Pocky with a spiral strip of some kind of fun fur. It will have some pom pom when it is finished. It is about to be attacked by the Balloon Monkey. Bad Monkey.

Bad Monkey. Watch out he is loose.

Clearing out Jo Anne'

As has been the case on multiple occasions I have bought everything at a big box craft store. In the Pittsburgh area we have three choices. Jo Anne's Pat katans and Micheals. There are not Pat Katans on Bus lines that are easy for me to get to. If there were I might go there once and a while. Micheals has no fabric which annoys me on multiple levels. Any way we have decided to add clown insignia to our practice uniforms. The tradition is to use stars. So for most that means white stars. The Apprentices will use blue stars because their shirts are yellow. Any way Micheals did not have the right stars at all. So it was off to Jo Anne's. Jo Anne's one only had one pack of white. So it was off to another that had six.

This is the rack after I bought them all. I know sad. Once upon a time I could go to Parker Button and get all of the stars that i would want in any color that i wanted. Now it is an Easter Egg hunt in the Suburbs. Only you are bitter and angry at the end of the hunt. Namely because you go to three stores and still do not have enough stars.

This is Rachel at our the Sheep and Dinosaur knitting and crochet group on Monday. Walt made her a Parrot. We had three new people on Monday. We also did another episode of Yarn N'at, Since we have figured out how to make the shows longer it looks as if there are going to settle in at about half an hour long. That make it like a real show. Only no one is watching and it is poorly done. Never the less it is still fun. And we are still looking for people to interview and new idea.
This was Sunday. We had Brigade Practice and we did a huge number of Balloon. Apprentice Arasen is close to getting his Balloon Proficiency. Some where in that pile is a missing Cadet.
We also had a new person join the Brigade at this session. Yvonne Chasko has been clowning for a while now and has trained herself as Gospel Clown. She tested in as Junior Clown and is a hair breath away from being a Standard Clown. That is impressive in our system if you are keeping track.

Apprentice Vest

Work continues on making uniform for the Brigade. Since most of the clowns would rather have vests we have switches to making vests. Pictured is we working on the yellow trim that goes on an Apprentice Vest. If I recall correctly this one is for Apprentice Speigel. If I am lucky I will be able to finish it before practice tonight. If not then it will be another week.

Hive Knittting had a small group this week for our first cup cake night. Still at one point we only had myself and my wife. With the move to Joseph Beths we are starting to climb out of the cellar. None of the old people have returned but we are getting new people.

Ravelry K2tog was huge. We had around thirteen people. I do think this may have been our largest knit together to date across the boards.
